Seeing someone you love dies with your own eyes changes everything about you. About life itself.
You realize that life is too short to be wasted in sadness or anger or emptiness.
It is too short to be spent alone hiding from the world.
That the people you love could leave you soon. Sometimes too soon for you to even comprehend.
That time is a gift so precious you couldn't risk wasting it.
That love can never be exhausted; it can only grow, even in the times of darkness. Even when two bodies no longer touch.
Even when the warmth is long gone.
Even when a soul and the world part.

Life is too short to succumb to your fear of being left behind. All you need to do is love, and love still with all your heart, until the time comes, and even more so after that.
