Being in love somehow makes you want to be a better person, to change some parts of yourself. But the reason to change should never solely be the person you're in love with. A catalyst. That's what that person should be. Someone who induces change in you. A catalyst, not the core. The core should always be yourself. Or else the change would fail to become sustainable. A temporary mask. As love fades, as love is outgrown, the mask will slowly be taken off, and you will once again become the person you were, or have been all along.
